Your CCW Training Does Not Expire. So Why Wait to Get Good?
Here is something most people get wrong. They assume their CCW training has a shelf life, so they put it off until they are ready to apply. It does not work that way. There is no expiration date on the training itself. The only date the Sheriff’s Department cares about is the one on your final certificate, and that just needs to fall inside your application window.
What that means for you is simple. You do not have to wait until you are ready to apply to start training. In fact, you should not. Do your hours now, get real practice under your belt, and build genuine skill before you ever carry. The sooner you train, the sooner you can practice, and the more prepared you will be when it counts. Carrying is a serious responsibility, and your training should match it.
One quick clarification while we have you. A Friday or Saturday “range day” is not the same thing as adding a gun to your permit. A range day is a full eight hours of required, state mandated training. If you just bought a new pistol and want to add it to your permit, that is a Monday evening qualification, a different night and only about 20 to 30 minutes at the range. If you are ever unsure which one you need, reply to this email or give us a call and we will point you the right way.
