Description
A first permit is sixteen hours: eight of instruction and eight on the range. This course is the instruction half. The Sheriff accepts it in place of the classroom day.
How it works
You get a set of recorded chapters, a quiz, and a certification form you sign attesting that you completed the eight hours. Work through it whenever you like, pause and resume as often as you need. Most students spread it across a week of evenings.
What still has to happen in person
The instruction can happen online. The shooting cannot. You finish with one full day on the private range in Escondido or Alpine, which includes your qualification. Book that separately.
Your range day ends with a twenty question written test on this material, so work through the course before you go rather than after. Bring the signed certification form with you.
What it costs
$249 for the course and $299 for the range day, so $548 for the permit. Taken entirely in person it is $499, because booking two in-person days takes $49 off. Online is the more expensive route, not the cheaper one. What the extra buys you is a day back.
