The new website is live, and registering for a class is easier than ever
One of the most common calls I get is someone who wants to train and cannot work out which class they need. Initial or renewal. Classroom or range. Sixteen hours or eight. Does the qualification come with it or not.
People were spending twenty minutes on the phone with me just to find the starting line. So we rebuilt the website around that call.
The schedule now opens with the same three questions I would ask you on the phone.
This is my first permit. Sixteen hours of instruction and a live fire qualification.
I am renewing. Eight hours and a qualification.
I only need to qualify. Adding a pistol or one you still owe us. No classroom time.
Pick the one that sounds like you. The site then shows only the dates that apply to you, each with its price and the seats left, and you book and pay right there. Most people are done in under two minutes.
One thing did not change. Booking the class got easier. The class did not. You still stand on a live range and you still shoot the qualification yourself. You get the certificate the sheriff needs to issue or renew your CCW permit.
Private training: one on one, at your pace
Sometimes a group class is not the right fit for you. The spouse who agreed to come but has never touched a pistol. The carrier who picked up a flinch somewhere and cannot shake it with nine other students on the line. The shooter who needs someone watching only their hands for an hour.
Private training is $150 an hour, plus $100 per person.
Two hours indoors in Kearny Mesa, one student: $400. Fundamentals. Grip, stance, trigger, and working a flinch out where nobody is watching.
Four hours outdoors in Escondido or Alpine, two students: $800, so $400 each. Enough room and enough time to work the draw, reloads, malfunctions, and shooting from cover.

Renewing? You can do the eight classroom hours online
A renewal is eight hours of instruction and a live fire qualification. The instruction can happen at home. The qualification cannot, and never will.
So you have two routes, and they cost almost the same.
Do the hours online. $309 all in. The eight hour course is $249. Twelve professionally recorded chapters, sent to you the moment you order, watched at your pace on any device. Sign your certificate of completion, then bring it to a Monday evening qualification in Kearny Mesa. That is $60 and about thirty minutes.
Do the whole thing in one day. $299 all in. A range day in Escondido or Alpine. Your eight hours and your qualification together, finished by 4:30, nothing left to book.
Here is the part most training outfits would not put in writing. The online route costs ten dollars more, not less. You are paying a little extra to get your Saturday back, and you are giving up a day of live coaching to do it.
If you genuinely cannot give up a Saturday, online is the right call and the certificate is identical. If you can give up the Saturday, take the range day. See how the online course works.
